I checked the NCATE listing, but I didn't find any online programs to work on my master's degree. Is there a separate listing for accredited online master's degrees?

Kudos to you for taking the first steps towards advancing your education. I am assuming that since you started your initial research with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education that you are interested in online master's degree programs in the area of education. Accreditation is an important factor to recognize while searching for a program. This one word offers you peace of mind that you are receiving a quality education, and that your degree will be recognized and accepted.

My first recommendation is that you choose the specific area of education in which you would like to earn your advanced degree. Some online master's degree programs in education include:

  • Special Education
  • Administration and Supervision
  • Counseling
  • ESL/Bilingual
  • Post-secondary Teaching
  • Curriculum and Instruction

Once you have selected your area of focus, you can then narrow your search not only by the accredited institutions, but by the programs they have as well. To find these institutions, I would suggest using a resource provided by The U.S Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education. They have complied a complete database of accredited post-secondary schools that will allow you to search accreditation by institution, state, or by accrediting office. I think you will be pleased to find that there are, in fact, several online master's degree programs in education on this list. I wish you luck as you continue your search for higher education!
