School history

Northcentral University was founded in 1996 by Dr. Donald Hecht, with its headquarters in Prescott, Arizona. As an educator with decades of experience in higher education, Dr. Hecht wanted to create a resource for online degree programs with a specific focus on graduate degrees and upper division undergraduate courses. Additionally, he wanted to provide a high quality education for students who had daily responsibilities outside of school such as full-time careers and families. In 2016, the school moved its main offices to San Diego, California.

The goal of Northcentral University has always been to provide online learners with individual attention from their instructors at a time and place most convenient for the student. The university continues that tradition today. Since the university is all online, students can take their classes from anywhere they have internet access. This commitment to convenience is combined with a commitment to quality from an accredited university. Northcentral University provides personalized attention and one-to-one student to teacher interaction.

While it is possible to complete a bachelor's degree from Northcentral University, currently, students cannot start and finish an undergraduate degree at the school. Because Northcentral focuses so rigorously on upper division undergrad courses and graduate degree online programs, at least 60 approved undergraduate credits are necessary from another institution to earn an undergraduate degree at Northcentral. Most of the university's classes are upper division courses and graduate level. This focus on upper division and graduate online programs allows the school to focus on specialized and high-level education. Its degree programs are 100-percent online with 100 percent of its faculty holding a Ph.D. This is a very rare distinction especially for an online university.

Because the school continues to embrace the idea of one-to-one faculty/student interaction, students can expect plenty of personal attention from the highly educated and experienced professors. Furthermore, most classes start each week so there is no need to wait for traditional quarters or semesters to begin.

Northcentral University has always been committed to offering 100-percent online degree programs, and they have invested considerable resources into making the online education experience as robustcuttin as possible.

In addition to these distinctions, the university has a firm commitment to transparency and communication. Whether you need academic, advisory or financial aid assistance, for example, Northcentral University has committed to providing the people and infrastructure essential for clear communication with students. And the help you need is available from wherever you are in the world since Northcentral University's online degree programs have no residency requirements.

Northcentral University is regionally accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), located at 985 Atlantic Avenue, Suite 100, Alameda, CA 94501 (www.wascsenior.org).

Financial aid

Since its founding in 1996, Northcentral University has been offering students a variety of financial aid and helping them find private sources of funding. In 2009, the ability to gain access to financial aid expanded exponentially for students interested in the online degree programs at Northcentral. In that same year, the school became Title IV compliant allowing students access to federal financial aid.

Additionally, Northcentral offers special pricing for active members of the United States military. The school also has recently extended a new tuition fee structure to military veterans and their spouses. Also, international students may have access to special funds, grants, loans and scholarships through their home country's government or private companies.

Another option Northcentral University offers are grants that are similar to scholarships. Unlike loans, grants do not need to be repaid if the conditions of the grant are met.
