Is Greek Life Possible with Online Education?

Fraternities & Sororities in Distance Education
Is it possible to pledge when you attend school online?  And if so, would you even want to?  After all, how much fun can you have without the keggers, togas, and camaraderie?  Well, it is possible to join a fraternity or sorority when you attend school online.  And there are actually many benefits to doing so.

Pledging as an Online Student
Although you probably won’t find many online programs that actually house Greek institutions, most fraternities and sororities have regional and local chapters for which you might be eligible.  Let’s say you live in Madison, WI, attend an online program based in Portland, OR, and want to join a sorority headquartered in Miami, FL.  If you contact the head office and let them know of your enrollment (and eligibility as a student), they may be able to direct you to the closest office to Madison where you can join as an “official” member of an existing school’s sorority.

The Advantages of Greek Life
You may or may not have access to (or time for) the raging parties and cultural events normally associated with Greek life.  But there are still numerous advantages to joining.  You instantly have access to a group of friends, associates, and alumni.  The networking opportunities that emerge are invaluable.  While online education offers equally enticing connections, you won’t always have that face-to-face contact that is so crucial for many types of relationships.  And besides, aren’t two networks better than one anyway?
