Blog Roundup 6/23/08: Online Education Gets Respectable

OK, so this first one isn’t a blog, but the New York Times has a great article on students’ career choices after college, and how the Ivy League is trying to encourage more students to join Teach for America instead of faceless corporate giants. Bear Stearns may not be knocking on your door anytime soon (which is probably a good thing), but this kind of decision resonates with students all over the world, especially those with student loans to pay back.

If you want to study for a public service career but are afraid the salary won’t cover your loan payments, check with your school for incentives. And don’t discount loan-repayment programs like Teach for America and the Peace Corps.

Meanwhile, The Other 85 Percent has a thoughtful post (based on someone else’s thoughtful speech) about public, nonprofit universities dipping their toes into online education. New paradigms for everyone!

Higher ed/tech organization Educause just handed out awards to leaders in the field of educational technology, notes the Chronicle. No surprise here–at least one of the awards went to the head of online learning for a major U.S. university.
