Walden University Interdisciplinary Studies Bachelor's Degree Announced

Walden Interdisciplinary Studies

Students of Walden University have a new choice for undergraduate studies--B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies.

The interdisciplinary studies program, offered through Walden University's Center for Undergraduate Studies, was designed with a complex global society in mind. Through course selection, students of the program can define their own course of study and learn skills to meet their needs and goals.

Walden University Promotes Global Awareness

With enrolled students from more than 90 countries, Walden University demonstrates its commitment to the global community. Considering the broad challenges today's graduates face in the workplace, students need a well-rounded education that serves their specific needs. The interdisciplinary major intends to address those needs.

Dr. David Mathieu, executive director of Walden's Center for Undergraduate Studies, said, "The Association of American Colleges and Universities cites this type of integrative learning as central to students' personal success and quality of life in the 21st century."

Central Themes Incorporated in New Degree

The new B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies incorporates themes that are pillars of a Walden education:

  • Social responsibility
  • Global awareness
  • Civic engagement
  • Information fluency

While keeping these tenets in mind, students prepare themselves to function in the global community, regardless of their specific career goals. Students who choose the interdisciplinary studies program have knowledge and skills from several areas as well as the advanced ability to analyze, communicate, and solve real-world problems.

Personalized Interdisciplinary Studies

Within the interdisciplinary studies program, students choose two areas of disciplinary emphasis from Walden University's gamut of undergraduate majors. From there, coursework may include seminars, service-learning, study abroad, internships, and more.

An ePortfolio, created when students upload their assignments, provides graduates with an interactive showcase of their work as they move on to achieve professional and personal goals.

Walden University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association, www.ncahlc.org; 1-312-263-0456.
