Online Information Systems Security Degree Programs

As an information systems security specialist, It is your responsibility to shield data from loss, unauthorized access, theft, and tampering. Many tools help you accomplish these goals, including backup storage technology, firewalls, intruder detection programs, passwords, and data encryptors. You'll test the performance of these technologies, updating and replacing them as necessary. Most work is completed at a computer in an office environment. You are likely to average 40-hour weeks, but possible security failures can require on-call status during nights and weekends.

Most employers require a bachelor's degree in technology. You can get online college degrees in computer science, network administration, or information technology. Associate, bachelor's, and graduate degrees are available, some with a security focus. Your classes will cover viruses, intrusion detection, cryptography, and network firewalls.
