Sunstate Academy is a career-oriented institution dedicated to helping you prepare for a rewarding career in the beauty industry. Sunstate Academy's students go on to professions such as cosmetologist or professional manicurist. The comprehensive programs teach numerous techniques that go beyond hair styling. They prepares you for a career as a cosmetologist, nail technician, massage therapist, or makeup artist.
Sunstate Academy's instructors are Redken professional teachers who have also worked in salons. They work to combine theoretical knowledge and practical, real-world technical instruction to give you a well-rounded educational experience. In addition to the regular faculty, the school also brings in community salon professionals to work with its students.
Students are taught how to determine what a client needs so that the right products will be used and sold to the client. As a Redken Premier School, Sunstate Academy's students are taught about the range and uses of Redken brand products.
Classes are kept small in order to ensure that you receive individual attention. Besides technical skills, you are taught sales and interpersonal skills in order to merchandise products and maintain professional relationships with your customers, turning them into long-term clients.
Sunstate Academy was founded in 1975 as a barber school. In 1988, the school expanded to include a cosmetology program. Sunstate Academy now maintains schools at two locations.
Certificate Programs at Sunstate Academy
Sunstate Academy offers certificates in four programs: cosmetology, nail technician, massage therapy, and barber-styling cosmetology combo. All four of these programs prepare you to take state or national licensing examinations and begin work in your new career.
The barber-styling cosmetology combination program teaches you about cutting and caring for both men's and women's hair. Your coursework includes special attention to beard and mustache trimming as well as learning about hair treatments, hair styling, and facials.
The massage therapy program is a 600-hour program that prepares you to work as professional massage therapist. In this diverse industry, you could find employment in a spa, on a cruise ship, working for a sports team, or at a healthcare facility.
The cosmetology program teaches a wide array of skills that prepare you to pamper your clients' hair, skin, or nails. You gain experience in the student salon which offers customers a wide array of services. You can refine your skills in this supportive environment under the guidance of experienced professionals. The salon has 45 styling chairs in addition to other up-to-date facilities. Community members can obtain salon services for reduced rates as low as $9 for a haircut, style, and blow dry. Each student receives a professional kit with the equipment necessary for the program.
Sunstate Academy Services
As a Redken school, Sunstate Academy seeks out relationships with premier Redken salons interested in hiring Sunstate Academy graduates. Sunstate Academy also maintains job placement boards with updated listings of employers from all over the United States. The school actively seeks out employers in order to provide its graduates with a wide range of employment opportunities. Employers are also invited to visit the campus for recruiting purposes. The school regularly holds career days to allow students and employers to meet face-to-face
In order to be admitted to Sunstate Academy, you must have a high school diploma or equivalency and must be age 17 or older. You are also required to take the Wonderlic Basic Skills Test. The scores necessary for admission differ depending upon your course of study.
