Bachelor's in Business Administration: Finishing a Degree Online 23 Years Later

They best advice I give them is it's never too late. Don't think I'm 60 years old it's too late. I can't learn anymore. You've got to keep going. I don't care how old you are, just keep going. Don't ever think it's too late. I stopped 23 years ago, and I'm here to tell you it can happen.
South University was able to let me know what program was best for me by looking back at my transcripts and showing my strong points.  They figured out what would probably be best for me in the future and basically they showed me how to get my degree done not only in a quick way but also to get a quality education at the same time.

World Wide Learn chatted with John about his experiences getting his BBA online after initially starting his college education 23 years earlier.

World Wide Learn: Tell us a bit about South University online's Bachelor of Business Administration curriculum. How does it compare to your original campus college experience?

John Cunningham My curriculum was very structured and very demanding.  Anyone that ever thinks that doing  an online program is easy, might want to look elsewhere because it’s tough as any campus course I’ve ever taken.   And the curriculum itself really gives you a strong foundation before you go forward. Every class that I took gave me the strong foundation to go to the next level.

World Wide Learn: South University really stresses the importance of student support.  What type of support did you receive as a South University online BBA student?

John Cunningham The help that you get from the instructors, the guidance that you get from your advisor, just the overall experience--they do everything they can to help you succeed.

World Wide Learn: How would you describe your online classroom experience? And how did your classmates impact your learning?

John Cunningham You actually feel like you know your classmates better because you have a lot more time to put thought into your responses to each other. You also have classmates that are all over the world.  And you know you might have classmates in California, you might have classmates in South Carolina, you might have a classmate next door to you and you don’t even know that they’re next door to you!  And it’s very interesting the effort that your classmates want to put forth online.

World Wide Learn: What advice would you give other students who are trying to balance their life and their education?

John Cunningham

First of all, it’s tough, it’s very tough.   It can be done but you have to set aside time to study, and you have to keep ahead of your assignments.  I’d tell anybody, if you keep ahead of your assignments, you’ll be fine.  But once you get behind it’s really tough to catch up.  If you’re going to work full time you really have to keep your mind focused and you know when you’re at work, any spare chance that you get to study, open a book or whatever, you need to do it because it’s very demanding, especially when it gets towards the end.

World Wide Learn: John, now that you have your bachelor's degree in business administration, how does this affect your career goals?
John Cunningham First of all, I’d like to work at the corporate level eventually.  I’d like to start off in management, maybe middle-level management, and work my way up to the corporate sector one day.  Maybe within the next 2-5 years.
