Online Learning Fits Student's Busy Schedule

While working as a restaurant manager in Bermuda, Jeremy Wilmott is pursuing his Web Design Certificate online at Sessions.edu. He plans to soon make web design his career, possibly moving back to his home country of England.

World Wide Learn spoke with Jeremy to find out how he fits online learning into his schedule.

World Wide Learn:	How do you fit online learning into your schedule?
Jeremy Wilmott:	The courses are certainly a lot of work and sometimes it is a challenge to fit in my studies. But the more involved I become with the course work the more time I spend thinking about it during my daily life. Any free time I get I am invariably on the computer working on a project. For me using my creative side is an essential balance to my working life. I hope to be done with my program within the next four months; this is the timeframe that suits me.
World Wide Learn:	About how many hours a week do you spend on your classes?
Jeremy Wilmott:	I spend on average ten hours a week on Sessions class work but I often find myself planning design ideas in my head throughout the day. And inspiration will come to me all through my daily waking (and sometimes sleeping) life.
World Wide Learn:	How do you feel you are benefiting from the online critique and revision process?
Jeremy Wilmott:	The critique process is essential. At the beginning it is really hard to hear criticism of your precious work. But the more you work the more you realize how subjective a piece can be. To hear others' opinions is essential to creating your best results. You are given the chance to make changes the instructor feels are essential to making your project work. They know that each piece has the potential for being a portfolio piece and therefore want you to produce your best effort.
World Wide Learn:	Now that your courses are well underway, have you started to develop a more specific area of interest within the design field?
Jeremy Wilmott:	Yes I actually upgraded my Web design certificate to an advanced Web design certificate once I realized I wanted to concentrate on Flash. I am just starting the first of four courses in Flash. All four look really exciting but the Flash Animation class looks especially fun.
World Wide Learn:	Any projects you are particularly proud of?
Jeremy Wilmott:	I am especially proud of the flash work I have done, since that's the area I particularly want to focus.
World Wide Learn:	Some students take their time completing their courses, while others push through as quickly as possible. What works for you?
Jeremy Wilmott:	We shall see....
