“Being able to learn from other aspiring teachers who lived around the countryâand occasionally around the worldâwas invaluable to me.”- Jean-Elizabeth Brickner Anderson
If you want to advance your teaching career or make your mark as an administrator, the Master of Education (MEd) program at Jones International University® (JIU®) can provide the education you need in a convenient online format suitable for working adults anywhere in the world.
Why Should You Invest in a Master of Education Degree from JIU?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the demand for teachers, preschool through secondary education, is expected to increase by 12 percent, or about 479,000 new jobs, in the decade ending in 2016. Opportunities are typically best for those with advanced educations such as the MEd degree offered by JIU.
JIU is dedicated to providing tomorrow's educators and administrators with the high-caliber education they need to excel in their careers and beyond. "It's not enough to offer courses," says Dr. Debora Scheffel, Dean of the School of Education. "It's about giving people access to information, applied information, that allows them to take the next step in their career and lives."
At JIU's School of Education, students learn from experienced faculty who offer real-world knowledge and experience. "I loved my professors," says MEd student Timothy Green. "A lot of them could practically apply what we're learning in our coursework, and that was important to me. There were no teachers teaching theory that weren't doing it themselves."
"I'm privileged to be a part of this University," says Dr. Scheffel. "I look forward to continuing to help JIU build the very best School of Education in the nation and in the world."
Earn Your MEd Completely Online
At JIU, the classroom is never further than the nearest Internet connection. Students enjoy the flexibility of attending online courses from home, work and on the road, which is particularly beneficial to working educators. JIU offers technical support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and professors offer academic support via email or telephone. You also have round-the-clock, full access to JIU's e-global library® and Total Professional Advantage™ 2.0 career development resources.
Classes may be Web-based, but they aren't impersonal. "You get to know the students just as well in an online class as you would at a normal university," says JIU graduate Rebecca Cowan. "It's a kind of community because everybody ... has a chance to say what they want to say. You're not in a class trying to compete with 200 other people."

"Many times when I felt like I had too much of a load, my adviser was able to talk me through my load and help me with some things."
Together, you and your adviser create a map of your personal degree program, as it best suits your personal life and personal degree completion goals. This schedule is available to you electronically, 24 hours a day, so you always know where you stand.
About Jones International University
Glenn Jones, JIU founder and chancellor, adamantly believed that everyone should have access to quality education, so in 1987, he founded Mind Extension University--a cable television network that linked 30,000 students with more than 30 universities. Students could tune into lectures on their televisions instead of in traditional classrooms. The program not only proved the viability of technology-driven distance education, but, with the advent of the Internet as we know it, paved the way for more interactive programs.
In 1993, Jones International University became the first university based completely online. Committed to providing excellent programs that accommodate students' busy lives, JIU has established itself among the best online universities.

JIU is Ranked among the Top 10 Online Universities in the World
In a testament to the quality of education one might expect from JIU, it was recently ranked among the top 10 best online universities in the world by the Best & Worst in Online Degree Programs 2008. The list, initially published in 2002, is updated annually and rates each university on a 5-point scale that emphasizes the experience of its faculty. Of the top 5 universities recognized, JIU was 1 of only 2 schools based in the United States (Global Academy Online). Learn more about JIU, its College of Education and its MEd program.
Accreditation
Jones International University was the first fully online university in the nation to earn regional accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission, which is part of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, one of 6 regional, institutional accrediting associations in the U.S. Regional accreditation is the highest form of accreditation a college or university can obtain.
