Online Chemistry Degrees

Chemistry, the study of molecules and their reactions, properties, and structure, is a fascinating field with vast array of career options. Within the field of chemistry, there are many different areas for specialization, such as materials, inorganic, organic, environmental, nanoscience, physical, and biological chemistry.

A bachelor's degree in chemistry typically takes four years to complete. Undergraduate degree programs consist of fundamental chemistry courses as well as classes in mathematics, biology, and physics. Expect to enroll in lectures as well as attend hands-on labs.

What to Do with Your Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry
With a bachelor's degree in chemistry, you can be prepared for entry-level positions in the chemical industry and to teach high school level chemistry classes. Research positions at larger pharmaceutical or biotechnology firms or at a university often require a master's or Ph.D. degree in chemistry.

Accredited online universities offer chemistry degree programs that allow you to earn a degree from your home computer. This convenient alternative to enrolling in a traditional program is a great way to fire up your career and earn the credentials needed to land a job in the chemical industry.

Chemistry Career Prospects
According to the American Chemical Society (ACS), the average salary of its members with bachelor's degrees in 2004 was $62,000. Those with master's and Ph.D. degrees earned $72,300 and $91,600, respectively. Of course, these salaries are not guaranteed and vary based on location and area of specialization, but an accredited degree is generally required to work in the chemical industry and in research and development departments.
