WorldWideLearn.com introduces the class of 2016 via infographic

Online education portal WorldWideLearn.com’s "Class of 2016" infographic highlights the technology advancements and world events that have influenced the lives of this year's college entrants, expected to graduate in 2016. In addition, the infographic speculates on what these students may experience during their college experience over the next four years.

Foster City, Calif.

WorldWideLearn.com, a resource for education and career-focused news, recently launched "Time of your life: The journey of class of 2016,” an infographic that examines the unique events that have shaped the lives of students born in 1994.

Before they turned 10, the class of 2016 witnessed the birth of the first iPod and the digital music revolution, the launch of Wikipedia and the explosion of social networking through Facebook. Having grown up with technology, it is no surprise that 60 percent of 18 year-olds prefer to use a tablet or digital textbook to physical textbooks when completing homework.

“For this generation digital media is the norm,” said Aaron Tooley, spokesperson for WorldWideLearn.com. “Today's students have grown up with technology and gadgets that provide instant access to a wealth of information in ways that their parents couldn't even imagine.”

Despite the easy access to knowledge, less than 40 percent of students entering college in 2012 will graduate in the class of 2016. Another 40 percent will take six years to graduate or may never graduate at all. Technology may be only part of the solution.

“New technology allows students to quickly find, access and benefit from knowledge previously available only in a library,” shared Tooley. “However, although the means of communication and delivery may have changed, students still need to keep up with assignments, talk to career advisors and find internships in order to maximize their chances of graduating and finding a job after college.”
