Online Computer Network Training

Online network training courses give students the technological knowledge and experience to pursue several careers.

With organizations increasingly relying on technology in order to conduct business, it's an imperative for companies to have trained, knowledgeable IT professionals to manage their networks. Online network training courses can prepare students for these technical jobs by giving them the necessary technological knowhow and hands-on experience.

Computer networking courses typically cover topics such as:

  • Setting up privacy controls for an organization's networks
  • Ensuring that networks are secure and protected from security threats
  • Choosing, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting an organization's internal networking
  • Teaching employees how to use computer systems

Network training course skills

Students that enroll in networking training classes online, typically encounter a curriculum that covers the following skills:

  • Network analysis: Monitoring the performance and wellbeing of individual pieces of hardware in the network as well as overall network performance
  • Web development: Developing webpages and site architecture.
  • Software programming: Working with the programming languages underlying an organization's software systems
  • Network design: Developing plans for deployment of hardware and software in ways that will maximize performance and reliability across the organization.
  • Data management: Managing the ways in which data moves and is stored across the network.
  • Network scripting: Designing prewritten software scripts to automate certain repetitive tasks.

In addition, students in these courses learn how to plan and budget when creating an organization's network, as well as how to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Applying network training skills in the workplace

The skills that students learn when they take network training courses can help them pursue a number of different jobs, including computer support specialist. This position entails troubleshooting an organization's Internet systems, wide area networks and local area networks; evaluating network systems on the market and ensuring that systems are well-maintained.

Online network training graduates may also have skills associated with a career in network and computer systems administration. These admins use the technology skills taught in class to research products and choose the best computer network systems for an organization, set up security permissions so users can get into a company's network, monitor a network to determine whether or not it's running efficiently and solve problems with a network as they arise.

Similarly, database administrators typically have the technology skills taught in network training courses, as this job entails creating, maintaining and troubleshooting an organization's databases.
