Online Master's Degrees in Information Technology
The field of information technology blends computer technology and business, making this degree versatile and in demand. You'll study both the technical aspects of computers and the various applications they're used for. Degrees available include bachelor's, associate's, certificate, master's, and MBA.
Your IT degree will generally cover business, project management, and communications. Tech-focused classes would include computer networking, hardware, software, operating systems, security, and database administration. Your many career options with this degree include systems analyst, computer programmer, network specialist, data administrator, and management analyst.
One promising career which calls for an IT degree is health information technician. Health information technicians manage all aspects of a patient's medical records, including gathering and storing personal data securely and coding the information for insurance companies. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, technicians also use computers to "tabulate and analyze data to improve patient care, control costs, provide documentation for use in legal actions, respond to surveys, or use in research studies." Health information technicians typically work in hospitals, doctors' offices, other health care facilities, or at insurance companies. Of course, no degree program can guarantee a particular job or salary, but the median earnings for health information technicians in 2004 were $25,590.
