Online Master's Degrees in Human Services

Social and human service professionals held about 352,000 jobs in 2004, and employment in this field is expected to grow much faster than average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Human services careers include social work, case management, community support and outreach, mental healthcare, counseling, and gerontology, among many others. Unlike a degree in social work, which focuses on just one human service field, a human services degree helps students qualify for a broad range of service careers.

Human services degree programs train students to observe and interview patients or clients, record information, and implement treatments. Coursework teaches basic problem-solving skills, crisis intervention, and case management and referral procedures.
