With the assistance of a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, WGU's Teachers College has developed online, competency-based degrees and teacher certification programs for educators and aspiring educators. The programs were developed using more than 10,000 state and national teacher standards and requirements, including 25 states' teacher performance standards plus those from NCATE, INTASC, NBPTS, NCTM, the National Reading Panel, and many others. The teaching certificates and second teaching field endorsements are recognized by multiple states. The WGU Teachers College is the first and only online provider of teacher education to receive accreditation from the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
