Online bachelor's degree programs in business
If the highlight of your television viewing is The Apprentice, and you have pictures of Warren Buffet or Bill Gates on your wall, then a bachelor's degree in business is a natural choice for you. Even if you aren't so enamored with Donald Trump that you'd let him fire you on TV, business degrees are worth a long hard look.
The bachelor's degree in business: What to expect
One of the best things about business degrees is the wide range of majors and options that are open to you. From accounting to entrepreneurship, international business to marketing, a bachelor's degree in business offers a smorgasbord of specializations from which to choose.
There are some core business courses you'll find in most bachelor's degree programs in business. These include the following:
- Macroeconomics
- Microeconomics
- Accounting
- Business Law
- Business finance
- Management information systems for business (Computers)
- Principles of management
- Principles of marketing
- Business ethics
Business degrees after graduation: Career outlook
The wide range of professions that business degree graduates enter makes it difficult to describe a typical job or provide hard-and-fast salary projections for business school grads. If your business degree gets you into a Wall Street brokerage, you could find yourself in one of America's highest tax brackets before you're 30. But if your goal is to become a better manager at your current company, or to own your own mom-and-pop shop, then your road to riches may be rockier.
Along the more traditional route for college graduates with business degrees, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the following annual median wages in 2009:
- Human resources, training and labor relation specialists recruit, hire, train, motivate and retain the most qualified employees for jobs in their organizations: $56,440.
- Accountants and auditors ensure that financial records are kept properly, budgets made and adhered to, and taxes paid correctly and on time: $60,340.
- Office and administrative support manager supervise office support staff, assign work, ensure efficient office procedures and protocol: $46,910 .
In November 2010, PayScale.com listed seven jobs that people with bachelor's degrees in business (specifically, Bachelor's of Business Administration) often take. These jobs included human resources manager, staff accountant, and general/operations manager. These top seven jobs for BBA grads started at $35,615 and topped out at $95,091.
