Associate Degree in Telecommunications

Rapid industry growth makes the telecommunications field a great place to start your career. New technologies and services are developing at lighting speed, generating great demand for individuals with the proper skills. But all this change means one thing: if you don't acquire up-to-date technological knowledge, you won't be able to compete. Strengthen your career opportunities with an associate's degree in telecommunications.

An associate's degree in telecommunications can prepare you to work in a business, government, or industrial setting. Though coursework varies by program, you should gain hands-on experience working with basic engineering principles, telecommunications systems, data networking, digital compression algorithms, and program languages.

Many entry-level jobs in telecommunications require an associate's degree. And because telecommunication networks are continuously upgraded, you'll likely receive on-the-job training. Telecommunications workers are generally well-compensated for their knowledge and skills. No degree can promise a particular job or income, but according to government statistics, in 2004 "the average weekly earnings for non-supervisory workers in the telecommunications industry were $853." That translates to over $44,000 per year.

While you might chose to head directly into the telecommunications work force, you could also use your associate's degree in telecommunications as a springboard into advanced study in electrical engineering, technological management, or telecommunications.
