Equipment, Food, and What to Pack

Equipment
Wave is busy selecting, and modifying equipment for such an extreme environment as the north pole. Equipment selection is vital for a successful expedition, and Wave's life will depend on it.

Food
What to eat when it's -40°F out? Food is an important consideration for an expedition to the north pole. The constant activity, coupled with the bodies desire to stay warm will mean consuming approx. 7,000 calories a day. Compared to a typical 2,500 calorie diet for a male, the high-calorie intake comes at a price - increased weight.

Clothing
As with most aspects of equipment for use on a polar expedition, clothing is essential. How it performs, and to how well can mean the difference between life and death. Wave will utilize a 'layering system'. The trick is to stay warm and insulated enough, but not too much that he will sweat heavy. Sweat in -40F weather will freeze instantly and becomes dangerous or deadly.

Using a mix of modern technology with proven Inuit indian techniques, Wave will stay warm and battle the cold and wind during his trek. Materials such as fleece, polypropolene, nylon, down, and natural furs such as wolverine, beaver, and caribou will make up his expedition clothing.

Living on floating arctic ice
Considering that there are no hotels, not even other humans for hundreds of miles, Wave will be sleeping in a specially designed tent. This tent will be his home for the entire duration of the expedition. In it he will cook, eat, sleep, and perform other daily activities when not skiing, walking, or swimming to the north pole.
