Accreditation
Founded in 1940 as the New England Technical Institute, New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) began as a certificate-granting trade school. The Board of Regents of Rhode Island granted the Institution the authority to offer Associate in Science degree programs in 1977, at which time its name was changed to New England Institute of Technology. In 1982, NEIT was accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). In 1984, the state of Rhode Island authorized NEIT to offer Bachelor of Science degree programs. Today, enrollment has grown from 70 students in 1971 to more than 2,700 students. The original educational programs have increased to 28 associate and 8 bachelor's degree programs. The campus now has two locations, 2500 Post Road and 100 Access Road, and includes 12 buildings with more than 250,000 square feet of state-of-the-art classroom, laboratory, faculty, and administrative office space.
