U.S. Marine Corps Tuition Assistance Program: Am I Eligible?

If you are currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, but want to pursue a degree program or job training, you don't have to wait until you leave the military. The U.S. Marine Corps Tuition Assistance program is a military benefit established to help Marine Corps personnel who are serving on active duty continue their education. If you are a member of the Marine Corps on active duty, regardless of your rank, you are eligible for the U.S. Marine Corps Tuition Program. If you are an officer in the Marine Corps, you must agree to serve on active duty for at least two years following your enrollment in the Tuition Assistance Program.

What Does the U.S. Marine Corps Tuition Assistance Program Cover?

The U.S. Marine Corps Tuition Assistance program pays for classes at any regional or national college, university, technical, or vocational institution that is accredited or recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. You may use this education benefit for online or on-campus classes. You may also use Tuition Assistance funds at multiple schools or training centers as you are transferred during your U.S. Marine Corps career. The courses you take may lead to a vocational or technical certificate, or to an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree. The program will pay for:

  • Tuition
  • Mandatory enrollment fees
  • Instructional fees
  • Laboratory fees

The U.S. Marine Corps Tuition Assistance program pays up to 100 percent of your tuition and fees, with an annual maximum of $4,500.

If you are an eligible participant in the Montgomery GI Bill--Active Duty program, you may chose to use the education benefits you have earned through the Montgomery GI Bill Top-Up program to meet educational expenses that are not covered by the Tuition Assistance program.
