U.S. Air Force Tuition Assistance Program: Am I Eligible?
The U.S. Air Force Tuition Assistance program is a military education benefit established to assist U.S. Air Force personnel on active duty continue their educational pursuits during their off-duty hours. If you are a member of the U.S. Air Force serving on active duty, regardless of your rank, you are eligible for the U.S. Air Force Tuition Assistance program. If you are a member of the Air Force Reserve currently serving on active duty you are also eligible.
What Does the U.S. Air Force Tuition Assistance Program Cover?
The U.S. Air Force Tuition Program will pay for classes at any regional or national college, university, technical, or vocational institution that is accredited or recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. You may use this educational benefit to pay for online classes or on-campus classes. You may also use tuition assistance at multiple schools or training centers as you are transferred during your U.S. Air Force career. The courses you take may lead to a vocational certificate or technical degree or to an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree. Tuition Assistance may also be used at the Community College of the Air Force. The Tuition Assistance program pays for:
- Tuition
- Mandatory enrollment fees
- Instructional fees
- Laboratory fees
The U.S. Air Force Tuition Assistance Program pays up to 100 percent of your tuition and fees for undergraduate degree programs and up to 75 percent of the costs associated with graduate degree programs. For both types of degrees, there is an annual maximum of $4,500. You must apply for this education benefit on a course-by-course basis.
If you are an eligible participant in the Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty, you may elect to combine the Montgomery GI Bill Top-Up benefit with the U.S. Air Force Tuition Assistance program to cover additional educational expenses.
