John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts is a Canadian-based school that provides hands-on training and career education in the specialized fields of fashion and beauty. JCI limits each class size to maximize interaction time between students and instructors, and enhance the quality of training and instruction received by the students. JC Institute is known for its friendly and encouraging approach to education.

Industry-specific diploma programs offer training through four career tracks:

  • Makeup Artistry

All of the programs offered at JCI can be completed in less than one year. Instructors concentrate on providing just the right combination of focused classroom instruction and comprehensive practical training so that students can hit the ground running and start their careers immediately after graduating from a program.

History of the John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts

John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts was founded in Canada in 1978 to support a growing community of hair and makeup professionals. The school has created a nurturing educational environment to support the educational process.

The John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts is an award-winning school recognized by the Cosmetology Industry Association of British Columbia. The school has been voted "Top Makeup School in British Columbia," "Top Nail School in British Columbia," and has received a "Gold Award for Top Trade School in British Columbia" from the Consumer's Choice Awards.

Body Spa Esthetics Program at John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts

Students enrolled in the Body Spa Esthetics Program at John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts can expect to gain a well-rounded education in a broad range of spa-related esthetic practices. The training includes courses in nail art, manicures and pedicures, facials, exfoliatory processes, relaxation and massage techniques, spa business management skills, and more. This 41-week course allows a maximum class size of 14 students.

Fashion Arts at John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts

Because fashion changes and evolves constantly--and with the seasons--the Fashion Arts program at John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts does, too. Students are exposed to everything from the processes that drive the fashion industry, such as consumer demand, forecasting, manufacturing and wholesaling, to the high-end world of fashion show production. This 43-week course limits class size to 20 students.

Hair Art Design at John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts

The John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts has adapted to Canada's changing governmental guidelines to maximize students' time in the classroom. By focusing on only hairdressing, eliminating the non-mission-critical cosmetology studies, and adopting a "learn by doing" format, students enjoy the benefits of an accelerated program. For example, students begin working on mannequins on the second day of class and can expect to work with real clients in the sixth week of class. Graduation occurs in less than six months. For this 26-week course, classes are limited to only 15 students.

Makeup Artistry at John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts

The 39-week Makeup Artistry Program at John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts provides customized one-on-one instruction facilitated through intimate class sizes of 16 students. The curriculum includes an introduction to the basics, including biology of the skin and make up application as well as complex special-effects makeup for film, TV and entertainment. The Applied Arts program offers a unique opportunity for students to study advanced techniques associated with the creation and application of prosthetics and face casting.
