When you take courses online, some people think it can be difficult to make friends with your classmates. Not for Kelli Miller, who earned her master's degree in education from Jones International University®. Kelli found she and several other people were taking the same online courses. They got to know each other and decided one day to get together--in person. They planned a weekend in Missouri to have fun and learn all about each other. The group members maintain their friendship, support one another, and cheer each member's accomplishments.
Master's Degree in Education Valuable Outside the Classroom
Kelli earned her master's degree in education from JIU® even though she works in business. She is program director for Georgia's Unclaimed Property Program, which returns lost funds to their rightful owners. Kelli felt that a master's degree would help her better represent the state on a national and international level because what she learned helped her to perfect her presentation and communication skills. The online master's degree also has helped her learn about life, she says.
It wasn't easy when Kelli was taking courses online toward her master's degree. While she was a student, she was faced with some personal tragedies. But the coursework allowed her to concentrate on the bigger picture. She stayed with her studies even when it was difficult.
Funtime Activities
Kelli and her husband are "starting" a second family. They are adopting three siblings from the foster care system who range in age from four to eleven. The enormous responsibility of raising a family and working has taught Kelli to let the little things go. She's learned that it doesn't really matter that the socks don't match. There are more important things in life to worry about, she says.
When she does have a free moment, Kelli likes to go hiking and camping. During the winter months, she will bring out the sewing machine and work on making quilts. It's an opportunity for her to let her creative juices flow.
