Rochelle Harris

Meet Dr. Rochelle Harris, a professor in the Jones International University® School of Business with a penchant for hard rock and Jane Austen. Dr. Harris' students are often surprised to hear that her passions run far and wide beyond the classroom.

Life at Home

Dr. Harris currently resides in Resaca, a small town in Northwest Georgia about an hour and a half north of Atlanta. When not busy grading papers or hanging out with family, she's all about hiking. Dr. Harris once went the wrong way on the Appalachian Trail in Roan Mountain State park, turning a short hike into a fourteen mile excursion. But it's still one of her favorite places.

Musical Tastes that Might Surprise You

Don't let the PhD fool you--Dr. Harris' taste in music runs the gambit. She moves back-and-forth between hard rock groups like Korn and bluegrass musicians like Alison Krauss. Throw in some Celtic rock and international instrumentalists and you've got her playlist covered.

Favorite Part of Teaching at JIU®

Dr. Harris loves hearing what folks think about the poems, stories, and books they're reading, so it's no surprise she enjoys teaching English 102. One of her favorite discussions is of the classic novel by Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice, when she asks students to imagine a "missing scene" in the book to help understand the characters better. Dr. Harris' students have created some wonderful scenes that Miss Austen would have been quite proud of for sure.
