The Institute of Interior Design is part of Southwest Florida College. The faculty is comprised of professional interior designers who have worked in the field outside of the college environment. The school prides itself on providing you with the best materials to develop your skills and the curriculum has been carefully created to prepare students for the requirements of the interior design industry.

Associate's and bachelor's degrees are offered, as well as a diploma in kitchen and bath design. The Institute of Interior Design places an emphasis not just on the beauty of design, but its practicalities, including the health and safety of those who occupy the spaces.

Admission to the Institute of Interior Design

If you are a high school graduate with a diploma or equivalency, you are eligible for admission to the school's degree programs. If English is not your first language, the school may require that you take an assessment test to make sure that your language skills are sufficient to complete the program successfully.

In order to be admitted to the Institute of Interior Design, you may need to complete some prerequisite courses, which are available on campus or online at Southwest Florida College. Courses taken elsewhere may be transferable and credits may also be awarded for passing scores on certain examinations. You can also request a challenge exam to obtain credit or request credit for life experience by taking a Prior Learning Assessment.

Continuing Education at the Institute of Interior Design

Students at the Institute of Interior Design include those who are beginning their design training as well as those who have already worked in the field and want to improve or add new skills to their repertoires. Because professional designers are generally required to take continuing education units (CEUs) throughout their careers, the Institute of Interior Design offers a variety of CEU courses including programs such as Computer Software Boot Camp.

One-day workshops are also held for both professionals and beginners. These workshops are not a part of the degree program, but provide training in the latest advancements in the industry. Workshop topics include topics such as furniture arranging, home staging, lighting, feng shui, and faux painting.

Services Offered by the Institute of Interior Design

Financial aid is available through grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study and special assistance is available to veterans.

Externships and cooperative education opportunities are available while you are enrolled so you can obtain work experience while studying. This valuable experience can help you obtain employment at the completion of your associate's or bachelor's degree.

The Institute of Interior Design is committed to helping students find employment after graduation through their Career Placement services. Career Services helps you prepare your resume and portfolio and provides coaching for job interviews.

Lastly, the school holds several Portfolio Shows and Career Fairs annually where you can meet with employers and show off what you have learned at the Institute of Interior Design. On the college's Web site, you can find a list of some of the companies that regularly hire graduates of the Institute of Interior Design degree programs.
