Georgia Southern University was founded in 1908 as the First District Agricultural & Mechanical School. It began operations with only four faculty members and 15 students. In 1924, as the Georgia Normal School, it served as a training institution for educators. Five years later in 1929, it was granted status as a full-fledged senior college and renamed the South Georgia Teacher's College. In 1959, it became Georgia Southern College.
Since then, Georgia Southern University has benefited from massive upgrades of its facilities and programs allowing the quality of its academics to soar.
