Online Industrial Engineering Degree Programs

Industrial engineering is a specialized branch of engineering concerned with production procedures in manufacturing or service industries. Professionals with an engineering background often enroll in online college courses at the bachelor's, master's, and PhD level for career training in operations or systems engineering. Many experienced industrial engineering professionals move into management roles, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

Industrial Engineering Degrees
Undergraduate engineering students can begin their career training through online classes in chemistry, mathematics, physics, supply chain management, systems design, ergonomics, and statistics. Online graduate programs leading to master's and PhD degrees offer advanced courses in manufacturing, technology, and process analysis.

Industrial Engineers Please Apply
Job opportunities in industrial engineering are expected to grow through the end of the decade, the DOL reports, as manufacturing and service businesses seek to streamline their processes, reduce waste, and cut costs in materials and labor. Online degree program grads will find industrial plant jobs in the private sector or government and can work for management firms, consulting companies, or regulatory agencies.

No degree can guarantee a salary. However, the DOL reports average 2007 wages for industrial engineering professionals at $49,567 per year for those holding a bachelor's degree, $56,561 for a master's degree, and $85,000 for a PhD degree.
