Finding an Online Bachelor's Degree in Math

By Clare Kaufman

Question

I would like to study online at the bachelor's level for a degree in Mathematics, yet have not been able to find a program. It would seem to me that this would be the ideal subject for distance learning. Do you know where and if such a program exists?

Answer

There are a number of online programs offering a bachelor's degree in Mathematics.

  • Ellis College of New York Institute of Technology offers an online Bachelor of Science in Math/Physics. The program provides a foundation for applying mathematical concepts to the development of modern technology.
  • Northern Arizona University offers a B.A.I.L.S. in Mathematics/Statistics via distance education.
  • Empire State College's Center for Distance Learning offers both two- and four-year degree programs via the internet. Students design an individualized program in mathematics in consultation with an advisor. A Bachelor of Science is among the program options.

Many mathematics degree programs focus on math for educators, and award a bachelor's or master's degree in Education with an emphasis on math. There are also a number of programs offering a BS in Statistics or Statistics/Math combined.
