Food Science & Nutrition Degree Programs

With rising interest in health and longevity, the food science and nutrition industry has become big business. If you have an analytical, inquisitive mind and are interested in the performance of the human body, a food science and nutrition career would be the perfect fit. Food scientists and nutritionists work in the food processing industry to meet consumer demand for food products that are both nutritious and convenient.

Food science and nutrition degree programs prepare you for positions in performance training, culinary research, or holistic health practices. You can earn an associate, bachelor, or master's degree in food science and nutrition. Perhaps the best part of food science and nutrition programs is that you can earn your industry credentials through an online education format. Basic courses to prepare students for this degree program include chemistry, biology, and physiology. Added to this science knowledge base are techniques in cooking, canning, and preserving food types.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that median annual earnings of food scientists and technologists were $50,840 in May 2004. While no program can guarantee a particular position or salary, graduates of food science and nutrition programs should enjoy a positive employment outlook over the next decade.
