The Culinary Institute of America also runs five award-winning restaurants which are staffed by students at the school. Professional chef-instructors supervise student chefs in these first-rate establishments, which specialize in different types of cuisines from French to Italian to one restaurant with an emphasis on farm-fresh ingredients. There is also a bakery and cafe which offers a casual setting to enjoy to fruits of the labor of the baking and pastry students.

Programs cover all aspects of food and wine, and include instruction in diverse cooking styles, techniques, and cuisines. The Culinary Institute of America also offers special programs, seminars, and retreats. For example, the World of Health Flavors retreat focused on health and nutrition issues in American food and looked to traditions from cuisines around the world to attempt to offer healthier food.

The Culinary Institute of America also offers a CIA Boot Camp--intensive culinary retreats ranging from two to five days and focusing on different kinds of cuisines. You don't need to be a student to attend one of these events.

Students of the Culinary Institute of America enjoy a rich and active campus life. The school believes that learning isn't just about the time spent in the classroom. There are residence halls that offer student housing near the classrooms, and the student recreation center is a place where students can relax and mingle. 

You can enrich your learning experience by joining one of many student organizations.  The clubs provide a way to meet with people who have similar interests while spending time learning more about the culinary life.  The student newspaper, La Papillote, is published every third Friday, for example. You can enjoy your time on campus while you are pursuing one of the most widely respected culinary educations in the nation.
