Study for a career in justice administration

Criminal justice workers have an interest in protecting and serving the public. They are well versed in local and state laws, and they work hard to make sure these laws are followed.

A degree in criminal justice administration provides students with an education of the criminal justice system. Students completing a degree in criminal justice administration work in many criminal justice agencies. Lawyers, law enforcement officers, and even health inspectors may begin their education in criminal justice administration.

A degree in criminal justice administration is the backbone for a career in a criminal justice agency. Many careers in criminal justice require education beyond a degree. Lawyers must attend law school, and police officers are typically required to attend the police academy.

International and domestic criminology courses are commonly required for students pursuing a degree in criminal justice administration. Sociology, psychology and finance courses are usually required.

In 2004, police officers reported an average annual income of $46,180 to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Jobs for police officers are expected to increase 24.7% from 2002 to 2012. Lawyers reported an average annual income of $108,790 in 2004. Jobs for lawyers are expected to increase 17% between 2002 and 2012.
