Learn economic crime investigation and fraud management

White-collar crime is on the rise, and governments and corporations are looking for ways to fight it. Many corporations and law enforcement agencies are hiring investigators and accountants whose jobs are to protect the company from economic crime and to investigate cases. These employees often hold degrees in economic crime and fraud.

Individuals working in the field of economic crime and fraud often hold jobs such as law enforcement officer, private investigator, and corporate investigator. They work in public and private agencies, including police departments and corporate offices. Accountants can also be helpful in the prevention and investigation of economic crimes. They use their accounting skills to find financial discrepancies and errors, and they trace them back to the source.

Accounting is a commonly required course for a degree in economic crime and fraud. Computer courses and courses in law enforcement and criminology are also common requirements.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2004, private investigators earned an annual income of $36,330. Jobs for private investigators are expected to increase by 25.3% from 2002 to 2012. Criminal investigators earned $56,500 in 2004 and expect an increase of 22.4% in available jobs between 2002 and 2012. In 2004, accountants averaged $70,500. Accounting jobs are expected to increase by 19.5% between 2002 and 2012.
