Latest and Greatest Toenail Trends for Nail Technicians
Being fun and funky is not reserved for fingernails. In the summertime, a woman's feet are as much of a fashion statement as the rest of her body. Many women love to do interesting things to their toenails. You can learn about the latest toenail trends in nail tech programs in cosmetology school.
Acrylic Toenails
The problems encountered with acrylic fingernails are rarely seen by those wearing acrylic toenails. Acrylic toenails let you create intricate, artistic designs on the nails without the drawbacks so many acrylic fingernail users see, such as:
- Feeling excessively rigid
- Likelihood of breakage from overuse
- Worry about ruining the look of the nail underneath (Acrylic toenails can be taken off as the weather starts to cool, when your client is more likely to wear closed-toe shoes)
Toenail Tips
Long toenails will never have the same fashion status as long fingernails, no matter how professionally enhanced they look. However, toenail tips are a rising trend that is often discussed in nail tech courses. Applying toenail tips can create a more polished look for your feet and help even out toenails that grow slower than others.
Toenail tips can be trickier to apply than fingernail tips, due to the thickness and curvature of toenails. As a student in nail classes at beauty school, it is important to learn all the precise skills and techniques used when applying the tips.
Gel Toenails
Many customers wear open-toed shoes to work, and want a polished appearance without being gaudy. Gel toenails can be applied as easily as acrylic toenails to your clients, and are more flexible and comfortable.
Toenail Airbrushing
Airbrushed designs are less likely to be scratched and chipped on toenails. An added benefit is that when customers want to quickly opt for a more conservative look, they can simply cover them up with shoes.
Toenail Jewels
Sarah Palin caused a stir with her toenail rhinestones, applied only to the nail on her big toe, on top of cherry red polish. Many women enjoy putting tiny gems and glitter on their toenails, as well as incorporating these into acrylic and gel nails.
Removing Toenail Enhancements
The same careful, chemical based (not physical force-based) techniques used to remove artificial fingernails and tips should be used to remove artificial toenails and tips. A bonding dissolver, often acetone based, is needed to soak the nails in until the enhancement comes off. In cosmetology school nail programs, you learn various methods of removal suggested for the various formulations. Knowing which formula to use and how to use it is vital for any professional nail technician, in order to avoid damaging the client's real nail underneath.
