What Does a Pedicurist Do?
When working with a client, a pedicurist often performs the following tasks:
- Prepare a foot soak for the client
- Buff and exfoliate the skin on the feet
- File and buff the nails
- Clean up the cuticles and nail beds
- Give the client a foot and leg massage
- Paint the toenails with the client's requested color or design
- Educate the client and sell products (soaking solution, nail polish, foot cream)
In the salon environment, a pedicurist also books appointments, takes payments, and maintains the cleanliness of her station. Beauty therapists who perform pedicures may also work with clients who request other services, such as waxing or massages.
Pedicurists who work their way to the top of the industry can work with celebrities, fashion designers, and photographers on location. Marsha Bialo is a pedicurist to the stars and has worked with Annie Liebovitz and Karl Lagerfeld, among others, and has had her work appear on the covers of Marie Claire, InStyle and Self magazines.
