Makeup Artist Shalini Vadhera Shares Global Beauty Tricks

Celebrity makeup artist Shalini Vadhera's fascination with beauty began at home. Born into an Indian-American family, Vadhera's childhood visits to India sparked her curiosity about the techniques women around the world use to enhance their natural beauty.
But Vadhera's break into cosmetology came years later. While studying for a degree in international business, Vadhera began working as a makeup artist on NBC's "The Tonight Show." Soon she was flooded with requests from celebrities, and her career took off. Vadhera helped make up the stars of a number of TV shows, from "The Bold and The Beautiful" to "Dancing with the Stars."
Shalini Vadhera now boasts a roster of A-list clients like Alec Baldwin and the entire cast of "Survivor." But while Vadhera has accrued celebrity clients, her focus has always been on helping the ordinary woman enhance her natural features. She recently launched her own makeup line, Global Goddess Beauty, in Sephora stores around the nation. Through her travels Shalini discovered a line of beauty products that contain soothing properties, from antioxidant white tea and ginger to jasmine rice.
Vadhera also strives to ensure that Global Goddess products are truly accessible to all women--her brand offers products for a variety of skin tones. Vadhera's richly-hued eye shadows and dewy blushes have recently graced the pages of publications such as Lucky Magazine, Vibe Vixen, and Vogue.
Vadhera has used her sharp writing skills to take her insider beauty tips to the general public. Vadhera's book, "Passport to Beauty: Secrets and Tips from around the World for Becoming A Global Goddess" [St. Martin's Press, May 2006] brings trade secrets from far-flung locals like Australia and China to the comfort of your living room. Shalini's trademark inquisitiveness is on full display as she continent-hops in search of material. Cosmetology, to Vadhera, is often best au natural--her book contains natural beauty treatments that readers swear by.
Aspiring cosmetology students should take note of Shalini's tireless work ethic--the makeup connoisseur is currently working on expanding her Global Goddess company to include a skin care line and working with NBC to create a TV show based on her book.
