School history

The history of the Florida Institute of Technology goes back to 1958, when Dr. Jerome P. Keuper founded a small engineering school to provide continuing education for scientists and technicians working for NASA at Cape Canaveral. Rapid growth followed, and regional accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools was awarded just six years after the doors first opened.

Distance education at Florida Tech began in 1972, with the opening of a proxy location in Maryland at the request of the U.S. Navy, and the university's off-site offerings expanded in the ensuing decades to include dozens of undergraduate and graduate degrees, including 10 MBA concentrations and six for-credit graduate certificates in business and technology. Today, students can choose from online degree programs in several disciplines including accounting, psychology, IT, liberal arts and more.
