The founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, were graduate students in a computer engineering science program when they started the company in 1998. By 2005, there were 5,000 Google employees worldwide, and Google went public.
Google's success just goes to show how hot the computer engineering field is. There is a continuing demand for smart, skilled engineers who continually upgrade their skills. Computer engineering is constantly changing due to demands by consumers for better software and faster systems.
Computer software engineers design computer software systems according to client needs. They program computer systems, engineer solutions, and troubleshoot technical problems. Computer applications software engineers can work with clients to design the programs they need for their businesses. They may also work with Internet networking as well as database creation and maintenance.
To work in computer engineering, you'd need a degree highlighting design capabilities and computer programming languages. Hands-on work in computer labs at a campus is a great way to learn computer engineering skills.
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, median annual salary for computer software engineers is nearly $75,000. While no educational program can guarantee jobs or salary, a degree or certificate can make a big difference in finding employment in this field.
