Waukesha, Wisconsin is the seat of Waukesha County, located 15 miles west of bustling Milwaukee and less than a hour's drive from the state capital in Madison. The city is situated along several I-94 and I-43 interchanges and is served by Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport, a 30-minute drive away. Waukesha is home to 67,814 residents, with an estimated 2005 median household income of $52,599, well above the Wisconsin median income of $47,105 for that year.

In 1869, Waukesha entered a golden age, developing more than 50 different springs and mineral resorts that attracted health enthusiasts the world over, including Mary Todd Lincoln and President Ulysses S. Grant. Hundreds of tourists arrived every day for the healing waters and spas.

Today, residents enjoy hundreds of miles of nearby biking and hiking trails, more than a dozen golf courses, and over 77 lakes in Waukesha county. Waukesha's downtown offers a farmer's market, jazz in the parks, gallery crawls, block parties, Christmas parades, and the Carl Zach Cycling Classic, which draws top professional racing cyclists from around the globe each July.

The Downtown Business Improvement District recently completed $20 million worth of new developments including a new Riverwalk that extends three miles into the heart of Waukesha, improving tourism access to art galleries, the Waukesha County Historical Society & Museum, Symphony Orchestra, and Waukesha Civic Theatre.
