Over the last 40 years, Brookfield has made huge contributions to the economy of southeastern Wisconsin. Brookfield's 26 square miles are now mostly developed, but the city values and retains its open space (1,750 acres of parks) as an homage to its rural roots.
Since 1993, Brookfield has experienced average business growth of 92 new companies per year. A city of educated professionals, nearly 80% of Brookfield's workforce occupy managerial and professional or sales and office jobs. In this mostly white-collar city, it's no wonder that the median household income (as of 2000) was a staggering $76,255--significantly topping the national average.
