The city of Manassas, Virginia, located in Manassas Park County, is 25 miles southwest of the nation's capital. Manassas is part of the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, which has a population of over five million and is the eighth-largest metro area in the country. According to the 2003 U.S. Census Survey, the population of the city of Manassas is approximately 37,000.

The average per capita incomes in Manassas County and the entire Washington metro area are $36,106 and $46,782, respectively, which are both well above the national average of $33,050. The Washington metro area is quickly expanding with a growth rate of over 8 percent, greater than the national rate of 7.5 percent.
