Richardson, Texas is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Just north of Dallas, Richardson offers the advantages of small-town living combined with the cultural vibrancy of two large cities nearby. The Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area is easily accessible using any of the three Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) stops in Richardson. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Richardson's 2003 population was 99,536. The average yearly income for people in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area is $35,502--7% higher than the national average.

Richardson is at the center of the Telecom Corridor in an area with many high-tech firm offices. In fact, many of the top employers in Richardson, such as Verizon Business, AT&T, Cingular, and Hewlett-Packard, are technology and communications companies. Other top employers include Blue Cross Blue Shield and Countrywide Financial.

Richardson has much more to offer than exciting high-tech jobs. The cultural life of the city is also rich. Special events in Richardson include three yearly festivals, the Wildflower! Music Festival, the Cottonwood Art Festival, and the Huffines Trails Arts and Crafts Show. The Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts features music, dance, and theater performances.

The bursting of the dot-com bubble in the late '90s hurt Richardson, but it has rebounded well. The Telecom Corridor now features a more diverse group of businesses. With its great location and attractive cultural offerings, Richardson's economic success should be assured for years to come.
