ARTICLE: medical-technology In-Depth
Medical technology is one of the most progressive industries to work due in great part to its role in early diagnosis. While work in radiography or diagnostic medical sonography requires formal training and expertise, as a technician, you play a key role in a patient's journey to recovery. Radiology and ultrasound technicians are trained in radiography, or diagnostic medical sonography. Technicians use radiology or sound waves that create photographic images, giving physicians a closer look at a patient's problem.

Surgical Technology
In addition to its diagnostic practices, you can also receive training to work in surgical technology, a field that employs extensive knowledge of surgical tools and practices, and allows you to assist in surgical procedures. These technicians work in a more medically invasive atmosphere, and the sight of blood and high physical trauma are to be expected.

Medical Training
Both radiography and surgical technology require a comprehensive awareness of equipment, medical procedures, terminology, and a strong background in the fields of anatomy, physiology, and biology. These are classes that can be taken at many campus-based programs. Medical technology positions all require training that can range from one to four years, depending upon your level of certification. While the work can be demanding, the work you can do is invaluable to patients and the medical community.
