ARTICLE: construction In-Depth
Without heavy equipment, construction equipment operators, and building inspectors, there wouldn't be bridges, highways, streets, or structures. Here's a review of some of the hottest careers in construction today.

Earthmoving and Heavy Equipment
With relatively high hourly pay and, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a good job outlook, construction equipment operators use machinery to move heavy materials such as earth and construction equipment. Typical jobs include operating earthmoving equipment such as bulldozers, as well as using road graders and tamping equipment to apply concrete and asphalt to roads and other large structures.

Inspection Time!
Keeping buildings safe and ensuring structures are up to code is the responsibility of the building inspector. Building inspectors examine repairs, alterations, and construction of buildings and other structures to make sure they are in compliance with building codes, local, state, and federal ordinances, as well as zoning laws.

Managing It All
If planning and coordinating construction and building projects sounds interesting, then a career as a construction manager could be ideal for you. There are a variety of construction management jobs, from construction superintendent to project engineer to general construction manager. As a member of the overall construction team, construction managers may plan and direct a single project, or may manage a portion of a larger project. In all cases, construction management jobs involve supervising and overseeing construction supervisors and workers.
