ARTICLE: interior-design In-Depth
With home improvement, interior design, and makeover shows taking up almost every channel, it's hard to resist the urge to take up a career as an interior decorator. But being successful a successful interior designer is more than having an eye for color, fabrics, and kitchen and bath design; it's also a profession that relies heavily on business management, budgets, and marketing. One essential skill that many decorators neglect to master is scale-understanding how to order furniture or fabrics to fit particular dimensions is of paramount importance. Because the business of interior design is multi-faceted and dependent upon both creativity and numbers, getting proper training is key.

Design Experience
A good way to break into the design industry is to enroll in a campus-based interior design program or school. Betty Sherrill, an interior decorator who has been in the business for almost fifty years, says that design school training is simply more useful compared to traditional college. Courses in art, architecture, technology, and business and marketing are offered at many interior design schools and will get you further faster. As a new interior decorator, you'll often act as an assistant, meaning you may not jump right into creating kitchen and bath design. The learning process is essential, however, and in no time you will have creative liberties as a decorator.
