ARTICLE: Bethpage In-Depth
Bethpage, New York, is a hamlet located in Nassau County, on Long Island. With its close proximity to New York City (30 miles), Bethpagers enjoy a suburban lifestyle while taking part in the nation's largest economy. The New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island area has over 18 million inhabitants, making it the largest metropolitan area in the country. Bethpage is home to the world famous Bethpage Black golf course, which hosted the 2002 U.S. Open, as well as many other courses.

As part of the New York metropolitan area, Bethpage participates in a thriving economy. According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the area had an average per capita income of $43,277 in 2004. This was 31% higher than the national average, and ranked eighth among all metropolitan areas. New York City has seen its average per capita income grow at the national rate of 4.1%.

Bethpage and nearby New York City area provide almost every type of job through their countless industries and businesses. In fact, the area is home to most of the Fortune 500 companies' headquarters. But large corporations are not the only major employers in the area. Other top employers include:
  • Tourism: the many museums and other attractions that draw over 40 million tourists every year
  • Creative enterprises, like fashion, architecture and film
  • Universities: New York has over half a million students, more than any other city in the country

New York will remain one of the major financial centers of the world for years to come, and so prospective residents of Bethpage will be well suited with any degree. However, business and the arts hold particular promise.
