ARTICLE: Reno In-Depth
Reno is nested in the high desert northeast of Lake Tahoe and is the seat of Washoe County, Nevada. With a population of 207,000, "The Biggest Little City in the World" is the third most-populous city in the state. Reno is decidedly business-friendly: it was ranked first by Inc. magazine as the "Best Place to do Business in America" and "The Best Small City in America for Small Business" by Dun and Bradstreet.

Reno was ranked 46th out of 280 metropolitan statistical areas for median household income by the 2000 United States Census. Together with Las Vegas, Reno benefits from Nevada's liberal gaming laws and is a booming bedroom community to people from other states (primarily California) because of relatively low housing costs. In addition to its thriving casino industry and Nevada resort business, Reno is home to International Game Technology, builder of slot machines.

Top employers include:
  • International Game Technology
  • Reno Hilton
  • Washoe County School District
  • Sparks Nugget Inc.
  • Silver Legacy Resort Casino
