ARTICLE: Sunset Hills In-Depth
Sunset Hills, Missouri, located near St. Louis, is a relatively young city. But although the town wasn't established until 1957, don't let its age fool you--Sunset Hills has grown into a thriving community of 8,267 residents. The city is one of 91 municipalities located in St. Louis County, which has a population of 1 million. The median household income in Sunset Hills is $81,181, placing it well above the national and St. Louis County averages.

The major industries in Sunset Hills are education, health, social services, retail, and manufacturing. The rate of unemployment is below the state average, while the median house value is above it. The St. Louis region was ranked as one of Forbes Magazine's "200 Best Metropolitan Areas" in the nation in 2006.

Large St. Louis County employers include:
  • The Boeing Co. Integrated Defense Systems
  • Washington University in St. Louis
  • SSM Healthcare
  • Schnuck Markets, Inc.
  • St. John's Mercy Health Care

The greater St. Louis region continues to show signs of growth, with businesses indicating they plan to hire more workers over the next year. The government of Missouri also provides economic incentives to companies who take care of their workers, as evidenced in the passage of the Quality Jobs Act.

In its "2006 Best Places for Business" rankings, Forbes Magazine placed St. Louis 27th out of 200 metropolitan areas selected for their low cost of doing business. With the IT and life sectors expected to expand, Sunset Hills is primed to take advantage of the area's economy.
