ARTICLE: Framingham In-Depth
Framingham is a busting town of the Boston suburbs in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. It holds the distinction of being the largest of the nine towns that comprise the MetroWest region of greater Boston. Originally settled in 1650, Framingham became an incorporated town in 1700, taking its name from the English community where powerful Boston landowner Thomas Danforth was born. During the American Revolution, Framingham was host to the largest body of rebel militia outside of Boston.

Framingham was reported as the largest township in Massachusetts by the U.S. Census of 2000, with 66,910 residents. The most recently reported median income is a healthy $60,008, compared to a national average of $46,242. The town holds the distinction of hosting one of the nation's largest watch-producing centers following the founding of the Waltham Watch Company and the Dennison Manufacturing Company, which began manufacturing jewelry and watch cases in 1844.

Today, Framingham's economic base has broadened, with the inclusion of the corporate headquarters for Staples, Inc., the Bose Corporation, and TJX Companies. The town is also home to the headquarters of the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and Massachusetts State Police. Top employers include:
  • Bose Corporation
  • Staples, Inc.
  • TJX
  • ASA International Ltd
  • GTC Biotherapeutics
