ARTICLE: Schiller Park In-Depth
Schiller Park, IL is a Cook County village with a population of 11,850, according to the 2000 US Census. Located about 15 miles outside Chicago, Schiller Park is bordered by Franklin Park, Rosemont, and River Grove. The city is sometimes known as 'Kolze' because of entrepreneur William Kolze's heavy influence during the early days of the city.

The per capita income of Schiller Park is $17,781 according to the census; its median household income is $41,583. Approximately 73% of Schiller Park residents over the age of 25 have high school diplomas or higher. Manufacturing, hospitality, and food services are the leading employment sectors. Airline food services, Dobb's International Service and Interstate Brands are the top employers in Schiller Park.

Although the Chamber of Commerce and the local government claim that Schiller Park has been striving to better its economic profile, tangible results have been elusive for several years. Over the past decade, no significant big industry has come to Schiller Park and all the major existing companies are at least two decades old. The only new businesses coming into the city are mostly small-scale. The town may be content with its motto "Small Town Feel with the World at its Touch," but for this name to really take root, the city must enact even more radical initiatives to spur greater economic development.
